Jillian Schwedler

Dr. Jillian Schwedler is Professor of Political Science at the City University of New York’s Hunter College and the Graduate Center. She received her PhD in Politics from New York University in 2000. Dr. Schwedler was formerly the Chair of the Board of Directors (2001-2009) and member of the Editorial Committee (1995-2001) of the Middle East Research and Information Project (MERIP), publishers of the quarterly magazine, Middle East Report. Dr. Schwedler’s scholarly foci comprise social movements, protests, contentious politics, and policing and riot control methods in the Middle East–especially in Jordan.
