New Perspectives Program
BRINGING MIDDLE EASTERN SCHOLARSHIP TO NORTHEAST OHIO
The Northeast Ohio Consortium for Middle East Studies (NOCMES), comprising leading Cleveland-area secondary education and collegiate institutions, brings an engaging and relevant speaker series and an ethos of community involvement in scholarly dialogue to Northeast Ohio.
Our initial program in 2010-11 was entitled “Scholarship on the Contemporary Muslim World: Presenting New Perspectives to Middle America” was supported by the Carnegie Foundation and the Social Science Research Council. It revolved around three main themes:
Muslim Voices and Publics
Women in the Muslim World
Muslim Societies in Transition
